Symposium
Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal’s 2009 Symposium
The Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal extends its gratitude to everyone that participated and attended this California Correctional Crisis Conference on Thursday March 19, and Friday March 20, 2009.
The faculty of UC Hastings and the 1066 Foundation in conjunction with Hastings Race and Poverty Law Journal and Organization hosted the two day conference on the California Corrections Crisis. The purpose of this conference was to both provide a forum for open deliberation and critical exploration of the California prison system as well as to furnish a public discussion between academics, policy makers, students and members of the community as a means for social change and progress.
Panels discussions included topics on sentencing reform, alternative sentencing structures, the prison medical system, overcrowding, special populations in prison, and reentry programs. Additionally, the Honorable Lawrence K Karlton and Secretary Matthew Cate delivered an address at the conference.
