The purpose of this conference is to both provide a forum for open deliberation and critical exploration of the California prison system as well as to furnish a public discussion between academics, policy makers, students and members of the community as a means for social change and progress.

Panels discussions will include topics on sentencing reform, alternative sentencing structures, the prison medical system, overcrowding, special populations in prison, and reentry programs. Additionally, the Honorable Lawrence K Karlton and Secretary Matthew Cate will be delivering an address at the conference.
